Inventory before deployment
Identify device models, hardware capability, operating system versions, critical applications and user dependencies. This separates straightforward upgrades from systems that need replacement or additional testing.
Validate business applications
Test line-of-business software, browser dependencies, printers, scanners, VPN clients and security agents before broad deployment. Compatibility problems are cheaper to solve in a pilot than during a company-wide rollout.
Protect user data
Confirm where business data is stored and backed up. Cloud synchronization can help, but it should not be assumed that every local file has successfully synchronized before a migration begins.
Pilot, then phase the rollout
Start with a controlled group, verify applications and security tooling, then deploy in manageable waves. A phased rollout limits disruption and creates time to adjust the process when a real-world dependency appears.
Verify after migration
Confirm updates, endpoint protection, management agents, encryption, business applications and user access after each migration. Completion means the device is secure and operational, not merely that Windows installed successfully.
